Forum Title: Advice on Buying Prednisone for Dogs Online?

Hello everyone,

I recently adopted a dog from the shelter and he's been diagnosed with some allergies. My vet suggested giving him prednisone to help manage his symptoms, but it's quite expensive at the local pharmacy. I found an online store that seems reputable where I can buy the medication much cheaper. Can anyone share their experience or advice on buying such medications for pets online? Is it safe?

Hi DogLover42,

Thank you for posting your question here. It's important to proceed with caution when purchasing any prescription medication, especially for our furry friends. Here are a few things to consider:

  1. Prescription Requirement: Always ensure that the online store requires a valid prescription from a licensed veterinarian before selling medications like prednisone.
  2. Reputation and Reviews: Check if the store has positive reviews from other pet owners or any certifications such as those provided by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP).
  3. Contact Information: A reputable online pharmacy will provide clear contact information, including a physical address and phone number.

I would recommend discussing with your vet first to get an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan, then perhaps they can direct you to trusted sources for purchasing the medication.

Thank you so much, DrPetWise! Thats really helpful advice. I will definitely talk to my vet before making a purchase online. Do you think there are any red flags I should look out for when browsing these sites?

You're welcome, DogLover42!

Absolutely, here are some specific red flags:

  1. No Prescription Required: If the website doesn't require a prescription to purchase prednisone or any other medication, it's likely not reputable.
  2. Unusually Low Prices: Be wary of sites that offer prices significantly lower than what you might find at local pharmacies or even online vet clinics. This could be an indication of counterfeit medications.
  3. No Contact Information Provided: Any legitimate pharmacy should have detailed contact information readily available, including a physical address and customer service phone number.

Also, make sure to check if the website has secure checkout processes (look for HTTPS in the URL) which indicates that your data is encrypted during transactions.
